We recently had the privilege to do some virtual tour updates at three of the four Isibindi Africa Lodges.

We’ll share some of the shots via Twitter (@Daily_360) in the weeks to come, but for now, just enjoy the view from the Rhino Post Safari Lodge deck.

Click on the Full Screen button (top right) and then on the video icon – to see  the Ellies do their thing.

Rhino Post Safari Lodge is about 20 km north of Skukuza, in the Kruger National Park and the main attraction (apart from seeing the Big 5, enjoying the tranquility, eating great food …..) is the fact that you can join one of their rangers on a walking safari.

That’s right, you can go on a walk in the Kruger – and trust me, it’s an experience you will never forget.

Even if you don’t encounter King Simba himself, the fact that he might be behind the next bush and that he might not have had lunch yet – really heightens the senses. Really!!

We recently created a virtual tour of the KFM studio’s in Cape Town and it has been added to their website: www.kfm.co.za .

Ryan O’Connor (the morning show DJ) was our tour guide and, as you’ll see from the embedded video clips in the virtual tour, he is just as comfortable in front of the camera as behind the microphone.

From a technical perspective this tour is quite cool:

  • it’s a full sphere – so you can check out the roof and the floor
  • it has more than one embedded video in some of the scenes
  • we’ve been able to clone Ryan (Cape Town will never be the same again) and you’ll find 4 of him on the studio shot

So if you’ve ever wondered what the inside of a radio station looked like – go wild!!

One of those ideas so obvious, that we just did not think about it:

Use Twitter to share  360º images with the world.

Well, we’ve caught on to it at last and now you can follow us at Daily_360 (https://twitter.com/Daily_360).

If you’re not a Twitter user – you can view the latest ‘tweets’ on the right hand side of our Home Page.

We will post (at least) one virtual tour of a South African place of interest per day.

Please share with your friends – we want the whole world to see the beauty of our country and continent.

South Africa is getting itself ready for the 2010 Soccer World Cup and all around the country we see magnificent new sport stadiums rising in preparation for what promises to be a spectacle of note.

Seeing that Virtual Africa has had the privilege to shoot quite a few of the existing (and even a few of the new) stadiums, we thought it to be a good time to write a few posts on some of our brilliant sporting facilities.
This then is our series on: South African Sport Stadiums in 360º.

First up is my personal favourite: NEWLANDS RUGBY STADIUM

Above we have a Google Map with integrated 360º virtual tours of both the rugby and cricket stadiums -two of the most majestic and historic sports grounds in the world.

Seeing that it’s winter, we zoomed in on Newlands Rugby, but simply pan a block to the South to find the cricket stadium – with some 360º virtual tours of its own.

Instructions:
1. Click on the icons in the map to see 360º images
2. then on the ‘Go Full Screen’ link to see the good stuff.
3. zoom out to explore 360º images of the rest of Cape Town
4. click on the ‘ShareThis” button below to share the map with your online community
5. subscribe to receive a notification of our next post, Greenpoint Stadium

For a bigger version of this map, click on Google Maps in the top menu bar of this site.

We’re proud to release the first version of our new South African map.

It includes about 1000 scenic virtual tours – each with a link to a beautiful full screen version of itself.

Click on “Google Maps” in the menu bar to access the map and see if we have a pano of your town, or favourite South African spot.

Google Map of South Africa

It’s still a ‘beta’ (which means we’re not sure if it’s unbreakable)  so have a look and let us know what you think.

We’ll be adding some features in the weeks to come.

Any idea’s, suggestions or songs of praise will be accepted and appreciated.

So, you’re sitting behind your computer. (I know the feeling.)

Wouldn’t you rather be in a car, with the windows down, listening to your favourite driving tune?

I don’t know if its the same for everyone, but I think there’s something special about an open road under African skies.

Found this one between the towns of Kirkwood and Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Absolutely BRILLIANT!

Anyone remember the words to ‘Radar love’?

I’m a bit behind on my World Heritage Site postings, but I’ve been running around with Americans (not the notorious Cape Town gang) and created some quality content to help them show how beautiful this part of South Africa actually is.

So, while you anxiously await our next amazing post on one of South Africa’s World Heritage Sites, here’s some 360º eye candy for your enjoyment.

This is a Full Screen Virtual Tour of the Cape Peninsula which includes shots of Cape Point, Camps Bay, Chapman’s Peak and some very cute penguins at Boulders Beach.

(click on the icon below…)

What do you think:

  • Is it the most beautiful place in the world?
  • Can you tink of any place more beautiful? (maybe we can go and shoot it)

In a brilliant marketing initiative, the International Marketing Council (IMC) is currently taking a group of high profile bloggers on a short tour of South Africa.
I’ve had the privilege of spending most of today with the group and am looking forward to read their perspectives on this continent we call home.

After the positive feedback from our picture of the cloned winemakers of Vilafonte, I thought we’d return to some normality and simply show (singular) individuals in this group photo.

You can mouse-over each of the bloggers to see who they are. Clicking on a person in the picture will take your to his/her blog.

Most of what they write is posted at www.weblogtheworld.com whichon first impressions seems to be a really well structured aggregation platform.Check it out.

We wish our guests a safe and blessed trip in our magical and complex country.

May you go home with more questions than answers.

And may those questions be the right ones…..
